My Sitefinity Site

This section shows how the site is built and contains examples of templates, master pages, sitefinity customisation, user controls and control adapters. But first a little background about how it started out.

Which CMS?

After researching some the hundreds of content management systems available, I chose Sitefinity ASP.Net CMS to build my personal website, Although I've been building sites for years with Tridion, its a bit out of my price range for this project.

A few clicks on Microsoft Platform Installer and I soon had Sitefinity Community Edition 3.7 on my Windows 7 laptop ready to start building my new site.

Hosting Sitefinity

Finding a suitable web host however was not quite so simple. After googling for a suitable web hosting company I soon found that only a few had the .net credentials to host the application.

After a false start on WinHost, which looked so promising, I finally settled on DiscountASP. I signed up for the basic package, added a SQL2008 Database and had Sitefinity up and running the same afternoon.

A good job too, only two months to build my new site before my old site on Network Solutions shut down!

I still run my test sites on WinHost , everything .net 4 you need including MS SQL2008 for less than $5 a month.
