Nested Master Pages

The site.master page contains the main html markup for the page

The head contains, title, scripts, style sheet links, a custom usercontrol for the site meta data and a little jQuery for the suckerfish menu and google code prettify.

The body contains the tableless div layout with contentplaceholders for search, main content and footer with custom usercontrols for the primary navigation and breadcrumb.

There are a number of content layout master pages to provide one, two or three column layouts each of which use the site.master as master.

The content pages are created in Sitefinity and you can choose the template and theme for each page. Sitefinity stores the controls that you place in each content placeholder in its database. Using consistent contentplaceholder names across all of the templates means that you can change the page layout  while keeping the placeholder content.
